ISO 14001: 2004 Registration Granted to Borroughs Corporation
We are very pleased to announce that as of July 14, 2008, Borroughs Corporation has been awarded an ISO certification for ISO 14001:2004 for Environmental Management Systems. This is a significant accomplishment that demonstrates our continuing commitment to reducing our impact on the environment in all we do.
ISO 14001 is the international specification for an environmental management system (EMS). It specifies requirements for establishing an environmental policy, determining environmental aspects and impacts of products/activities/services, planning environmental objectives and measurable targets, implementation and operation of programs to meet objectives and targets, checking and corrective action, and management review.
ISO 14000 is similar to ISO 9000 quality management in that both pertain to the process (the comprehensive outcome of how a product is produced) rather than to the product itself. The overall idea is to establish an organized approach to systematically reduce the impact of the environmental aspects which an organization can control.
ISO 9001: 2008 Registration Granted to Borroughs Corporation
We are very pleased to announce that as of April 18, 2005, Borroughs Corporation has been awarded a Certificate of Registration, by Intetek Automotive Systems Certification, as an ISO 9001:2008 registered company. This is a significant accomplishment and is much more than a one-time achievement. It demonstrates our continuing commitment to quality in all we do.
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) established ISO 9001:2008 as a family of standards that state generic requirements for instituting a company’s quality management system. ISO is a network of the national standards institutes of 147 countries. ISO 9001 certification is voluntarily pursued by companies, such as Borroughs, desiring to continually improve their quality.
The Path to RegistrationIn March of 2004, Borroughs formed a Core Management team of 14 employees and selected Borroughs Director of Quality and Training Larry Parsons, as the Management Representative; they immediately began working with the Executive Team to achieve this company goal. The process to earn certification required numerous procedures, work instructions, process documentation, employee training and training verification. The continuous improvement process is based upon doing what you say and saying what you do, while focusing on customer satisfaction.
Compliance is confirmed through an independent audit that verifies that all design, manufacturing and sales processes adhere to this quality standard.
conducted the audit of the Borroughs Quality management system. The audit was successfully completed and Borroughs was awarded its Certificate of Registration as an ISO 9001:2008 registered firm by Intertek on April 18, 2005.
Members of the Core Management Team and the Executive Team raise the ISO flag in front of Borroughs Corporate Headquarters in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Continuous ImprovementBorroughs understands that ISO standards do not automatically guarantee better products and service, but we believe that documenting and improving our processes will directly benefit our customers. Compliance to the ISO 9001:2008 standard, the most rigorous to date, requires continuous improvement. Borroughs quality management system will be externally audited every six months to ensure that it meets the continuous improvement process and that it is being maintained, improved and corrected as needed.
